ISLAMABAD, May 31 (ABC): The National Disaster Risk Management Fund (NDRMF) has invested Rs 903 million in strengthening the health emergency response system in Balochistan’s 15 hospitals as part of broader disaster resilience and climate adaptation initiatives in disaster-prone districts.

According to the documents available with Wealth Pakistan, these projects were implemented in districts severely affected by climate-induced disasters, including Chagai, Killa Saifullah, Killa Abdullah, Naseerabad, Pishin, and Loralai, said a press release issued here on Saturday.

The health system strengthening programme covered districts including Quetta, Pishin, Naseerabad, Killa Abdullah, Killa Saifullah, Loralai, Chagai, Kech, Khuzdar, Panjgur, Gwadar, Awaran, Washuk, Wadh, Nushki, Kharan and Kalat.

Besides healthcare interventions, the NDRMF also invested in disaster mitigation infrastructure across Balochistan.

According to the documents, the organisation reconstructed and rehabilitated 88 flood protection structures to protect vulnerable communities from recurring flash floods and climate-related disasters.

In addition, 20 small dams and water conservation structures were developed to improve water management and climate resilience in remote areas of the province.

The Fund also retrofitted 15 public buildings, including schools and Basic Health Units (BHUs), to improve structural safety against natural disasters.

Furthermore, an early warning system was installed to help local communities respond effectively to potential disasters and reduce risks to life and property.

The documents described the initiatives as part of broader efforts by the NDRMF to strengthen resilience and disaster preparedness in Pakistan’s underserved and climate-vulnerable regions.
