Towns Premier League Launched to Promote Grassroots Cricket in Karachi

KARACHI: The Towns Premier League (TPL), a new tape-ball cricket competition bringing together teams from across Karachi, has been launched with the aim of promoting grassroots cricket, youth participation and local sporting talent.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Sindh Local Government Minister and TPL Patron-in-Chief Nasir Hussain Shah as chief guest. Organisers said 26 teams will compete in the league, including 25 sides representing Karachi’s towns and one team representing the Mayor of Karachi.

The official TPL anthem and team jerseys were also unveiled during the ceremony.

Speaking at the event, Shah said the launch marked the beginning of a new chapter for cricket in Karachi and praised the organisers for bringing all 25 towns together through sport.

He urged town administrations to support the initiative, saying the league was designed to encourage greater participation among young people while providing a platform for grassroots cricketers to demonstrate their abilities.

According to Shah, the TPL will focus on local talent, healthy competition, sportsmanship and community engagement while creating constructive opportunities for Karachi’s youth.

He said the tournament was a non-political sporting initiative centred on youth development, unity and wider community participation.

The minister added that young cricketers would be given opportunities to represent their respective towns, helping identify emerging players and strengthen cricket at the grassroots level in Karachi.

With teams drawn from across the city, organisers expect the Towns Premier League to provide greater exposure to local players and encourage more young people to take part in competitive cricket.
